How safety stock, reorder point, and EOQ fit together
- Safety stock is the buffer against demand that runs high and deliveries that arrive late.
- Reorder point is when to order: expected demand during the lead time plus the safety stock.
- Economic order quantity is how much to order when you do, before rounding to pack sizes and minimum orders.
Together they form a classic reorder-point policy: when inventory position falls to the reorder point, order the EOQ. It works well for steady sellers. For seasonal, new, or trending products, plan from a monthly forecast instead of a flat average.
Measuring and prioritizing
- Forecast accuracy shows how far the forecast misses and in which direction. The miss is what safety stock has to cover.
- Inventory turnover shows how fast stock moves and how many days of it you hold.
- ABC analysis shows where the value sits, so service levels and review effort go to the SKUs that matter most.
From one SKU to the whole catalog
These calculators answer one question at a time. Varox does the same work for every SKU at once: it forecasts demand by month, applies safety stock by ABCD class, lead times, and pack sizes, and turns the result into a delivery plan and the working capital it needs. It is free for up to 10,000 active SKUs and starts from an Excel or CSV export.
